Iowa Assigns 3 New Players to the Americans’ Roster

The Iowa Wild has assigned three new players to the Americans’ roster, what many believe to be a sneak peek to the Americans’ playoff team. The new players include Matt Register, Mitch McClain, and Kyle Bauman.

Matt Register

Matt Register is no stranger to the Allen Americans locker room. He played for the Americans in the 2011-12 season and the 2015-16 season when the Americans won the Kelly Cup. This year, the Iowa Wild defenseman has scored one goal and picked up two assists in thirty games. Register has had plenty of success in the ECHL and was named to both the ECHL First All-Star Team and ECHL Defenseman of the Year back to back in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 campaigns.

Mitch McClain

The 26-year-old center Mitch McClain has played for the Iowa Wild since the 2017-18 season. So far this year he has played 28 games with 2 goals and 2 assists. I caught up with McClain after his first game with the Americans where he scored his first goal. When I asked him what kind of momentum this gives him Mitch explained after not playing much in Iowa,

“It felt good to come down here and contribute with the team. I got a lot of ice time so the first night went well, hopefully, we can build off of that going forward.”

Below is my pre-game interview with McClain from February 21st.

Kyle Bauman

The Iowa Wild forward has played in the AHL since the 2017-18 season. Before signing with the Wild this season, he played two consecutive years with the Ontario Reign. Last year, with the Reign he totaled 5 goals and 13 assists in 67 games. The year prior, he only played 6 games, walking away with 2 points.

Despite splitting a two-game series with Tulsa, Matt Register and Mitch McClain both had personal success. McClain scored his first Americans’ goal on Tuesday night’s game in Tulsa and Register picked up two assists in Friday night’s game at home. The new additions to the Americans’ roster have proved to be very beneficial in the little time they have played with the team.
